The 'E' Type Forum

Looks like part of a steering rack, but as far as I can tell not an E-Type part.

I would say right angle drive for the Speedo. Will be fitted to the side of the gear box. The bit on the right looks like a broken off end from the inner cable of the Speedo drive cable...my four lenses worth..

BSA oil pump, damaged/misassembled. The helix should be central in the pump body cutaway, which is where it meshes with a helix on the timing side of the crankshaft. The larger end of the body houses two gear pairs, a small pair for feed and a larger pair for dry sump scavenge.

Mr Impolite probably knows this and may just be 'trying it on'. It is a small component (there is no ruler shown for scale) and is nowhere near the fit of an XK engine part. Anyway, I much preferred the Triumph double plunger design, which is controlled by one way ball & spring valves and therefore the sump does not fill with oil on prolonged standing. With these gear pumps,gravity eventually pulls the oil down from the tank, through the gaps between meshing gears and the sump fills up. Kickstarting becomes hell with the oil drag,

I thought it looked a bit "bikey". I was about to suggest something off a '50s lathe or milling machine, or perhaps the drive base from a magneto.

Thank you all for your help. It must be a part for my BSA, I mixed with my e type parts! I purchase my e type last year with a ton of extra parts that I have been trying to sort through. You guys are awesome! The expertise just humbles me

That's more like it ehos, but is that your real name? If not, could you add a name and maybe country and exact E-type year/version? It saves you typing that stuff every time, although your avatar suggests it's an American Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe?
