My 69 S2 FHC kept squeaking when I turned the steering wheel.
It squeaked from the front when I went over a bump also.
It also squeaked when I let out the clutch from standstill.
3 squeaks!
All these issues are now fixed. Can you guess the causes?
A clue is that each squeak had a different cause.
With regards to the steering, it has had new steering column bearings, a new lower UJ, a new steering rack, new steering ball joints, new suspension ball joints, new upper and lower wishbone bushes, new brakes and wheel bearings. Still it squeaked when turning the wheel or when the car went over a bump. Two independent problems here, they took minutes to fix once identified. The car has a standard non power-steering rack.
With regards to the clutch squeak, the car has has new 3 piece clutch, master, slave lines etc. New engine mounts, new stabiliser bush. Pull away from standing, sounds like the engine is trying to jump out of the car. This problem took 10 minutes to fix once identified. The car was on standard SUs at the time.
Can anyone guess what the cause of the squeaks was?
