1) all ends on the new harness where identified and marked with tape tags.
2) all corresponding connections in the car where found and similarly tagged.
3) three separate diagrams where needed to correctly identify EVERYTHING...almost. I identified the long mysterious red/yellow (fog lamp) but still found a few minor differences that I know are original (sigh).
4) old harness was removed.
5) new one was carefully installed. See images about the sequence. The three light holders must go through the firewall hole first. They will NOT pass through if the harness is already installed. The harness has enough flexibility to make the tight last bend.
*A question* What is the one ground connection for? The only thing it can reach is either the speedo or tach.
Note my modified bonnet plug. I liberated an aircraft 'Canon' plug many years ago. The wires are soldered in place and the whole plug seals with two separate rubber grommets. After twenty years the wires are still in great shape. The plug screws on and can be lockwired to prevent unscrewing.
One last note....I won't need the alternator harness since I'd installed a modern alternator many years ago, removing the need for the alternator relay, 3AW thingy and the associated wiring. The three new wires for the alternator where threaded into the old harness cloth (after washing it) to look sorta original. I used a lable maker (Brother P-Touch) to make small labels which where sealed to the wire with clear heat shrink. Brother makes tape small enough for wire marking (get the tapes off Ebay as they're crazy expensive at the stores).
