Radiator repair?

Hi All ,

My radiator has a leak from the core about the drain tap some where .
Is it worth trying to get repaired or should I go for new ?
Barrett's are about £500 plus plus
Does anyone know of a good repair place or have a one for sale ?
Any suggestions
I have tried rad weld and another one similar

If you have one leak expect more to follow. You could get it re-cored but I would recommend getting a new one as it means you will have no further worries and can get on with enjoying driving the car.

I got mine re cored for £240 by Boston Motorcool.

Only the tap, top and bottom tanks remain.

Options available on the core.

That was 4,000 miles ago.

Northampton Auto Radiators are the ones I recommend. They are fully conversant with all Jaguars and when I took my early 4.2 rad there for repair, with rotted out frame etc., they immediately produced an exchange one for me at very modest price - I can't offhand remember exactly how much but I think it was less than £150 about 9 years ago . Friends have had good service from them as well and for those who need it they will make bespoke radiators, oil coolers etc

Hi Grant,

If you can change it it's really better !
Save your money on seals or other not essential things.
When a possible breakdown can be permanently eliminated, do it.

I used Mansfield Radiators near Mansfield. Recored using a more efficient centre, ended up like brand new.

The owner specializes in older cars and had other Jaguar and Aston rads in for recorring.

Cost £300.

Easy to find using Google.

Hi Everyone

Thank you again for a great response.
I was going to go down the new route after the first reply but I found both Barrett's and David Manners needed 3 weeks before order time .
I have found a place near Guildford who can do it in around a week and are quoting £250 and a week to recondition it .

So I think that's the route I will take after all 3 weeks and the summer will be over !
