fired up the engine yesterday first time since rebuild started in ,11 -----had only done 37 000 on rebuild when purchased ran fine no knocks or rattles just the odd oil dribble ..so had bottom end stripped crank grind new front and rear seals oil pump...etc sounds great will fart around fine tune when Iget thewheels on soon question the balancer has got the wobbles (A LOT) on idle settles down at revs is this normal or should I chuck it?....WAZZA

If, by wobbles , you mean that it is wobbling fore and aft,then it doesn't sound normal at all . If, however, you mean that at idle when you put a timing light on it there is scatter about the timing marks, then this is not uncommon. It is usually caused by wear on the phosphor bronze distibutor drive gear, and whilst a nuisance is not of huge functional significance

I would put a lever between the timing case and the outer periphery of the damper, and gently lever it. If you get any movement at all between the inner and outer parts of the damper, then you need a new one as it means the metalastik bond has gone or is going
