I have just removed my rack, tower and pump in order to replace seals in the leaking rack and to re-shim the inner ball joints. (Ive also just ordered a pressure reduction kit from Borgeson to improve the steering feel and reduce chances of more leaks.....tho Ive since read that Dick Maury dosent agree with any pressure reduction....! )
With the seal kit I purchased I have a couple of "spare" seals that I suspect fit in the tower.
Now Im not sure if the tower or the pump leak ..... there is 1/2" cake everywhere....but my question is now I have these parts out, should I replace all seals regardless?. (the cars done 56k) Do they tend to eventually leak? What are the pitfalls in doing this or is it fairly straightforward?

Any advice/experience gratefully received!

Well I have now taken my pump apart and for the benefit of other inexperienced people I can answer my own question!
If you go to the trouble of replacing the rack seals then do also strip the pump (its fairly straightforward) as if its like mine itll be full of crap and the seal and o-rings will have stiffened.

Not much help to you, but I bought an imported OTS with power steering. When converting it to RHD I decided to get rid of the pump, reservoir and all the pipes & just fit electric steering. My car is still in bits at the mo so I haven't driven it, but everybody speaks highly of this system - and it gets rid of all the clutter under the bonnet - and, I'm told, saves a few bhp at the same time.

Thanks Hugo for the thought but Im trying to keep it original.............I will however look for an owl to wear as it gives you a sense of gravitas and apparent wisdom....

Appearances are everything of course! The good thing about the electric steering is that you can easily revert to original and nobody would ever know ;)
