Can anybody tell me which way the distributor body should be facing? I'm just putting my engine back together & want to get the keyway in the driveshaft in something like the correct position. I can figure out the rotor position from the old plug leads, but have no idea which way the body should be facing. At the moment I have the vacuum advance pointing sort of half way down the block, but that's just random.

Steve, why ever do you bother trying to help some people when you know they will either throw it back in your face or show no gratitude?
Especially when this information is in the manuals that EVERY E Type owner should have.

totally agree....I would go so far as to say reading and checking with the Manual and the SPC is interesting reading....you know if any parts from the original car are incorrect via the SPC and the Manual gives you a fantastic sequence and methodology...bonkers of you don't take full advantage...
