I have the original wiper motor for my lhd 63 Fhc. As part of the total rebuild, I will convert the motor and linkage to rhd operation. Linkage- easy. Motor - not so easy. I want to bench test it first before completing a strip down and re-furb. I have a bench test power transformer, but as the wires no longer have any discernible colour to them, testing may be too much of a trial and error process. Is there a way I can test using the 3 contacts on the cover plate, marked 1 2 and E? The car will remain positive earth if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the pic & diags. When you bench tested it, did you have the dash switch and loom included, or did you just use the wires from the motor connected to a power source?

I connected the motor to the original switch and of course to a power source by individual wires and have been able to switch between the both speeds.

Because of the relative complexity of the wiring I tend to test wiper motors by connecting them to the wiring of another car if on is available. Takes 5 minutes.

I have used a guy called Steve Hunt (he is normally at the jaguar spares days) to refurbish a couple of wiper motors for me in the past. he gives a comprehensive rebuild and 'touch wood' I have not had any issues with them. I have needed to use them in anger quite a few times on long journeys. he replaces the thermal cut outs and returns them as factory spec. You might also consider an upgraded motor as advertised by CMC etc.

For me these are quite critical safety items if you intend to use the car so its worth paying for the assurance they will work.
