Carbie/Fuel pump washers

Trying eliminate a petrol smell in the boot of my DHC.

I notice from the parts book that both connections to the fuel pump and the one on the bulkhead have fibre washers shown on both sides.

However the connection of the fuel rail to the float bowls has a aluminium washer on the outside and a fibre on the inside.

Same screw in fittings, but anybody got an idea why they are different and would it be a good to connect up the fuel pump the same way with an aluminium washer on the outside.

Or just try and see if it helps.
