#1 V12 knocking from rear poss Diff /XJS Diff

Post by clive V12 » Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:20 am

Hi,
I have now replaced my broken shocks, at the same time I replaced the springs, discs, pads and renewed the caliper pisons and rubbers, buy I still have a speed related kocking from the back end, I think it may be the diff!
Does anyone know if the Diff from a 1978 XJS V12 will fit straight into a seies 3 V12 E Type ?
If not can you recomend someone who can rebuild my diff ?
What is the aprox cost ?
Regards,
Clive

I had my V12 diff rebiult by DANA Transmissions in Witton, Birmingham about three years ago. Dana took over the plant ( I think from GKN) that built Jaguars differentials in our cars a few years ago and operate a service department (or at least they did three yeras ago) from the plant. They are supplying axles to Jaguar Land Rover OE from the Witton plant to this day. Probably one of the very few suppliers to Jaguar from the E Type era still operating, albeit now under a change of ownership.

To rebuild with new crown wheel and pinion 3:07 ratio, all new bearings seals and most importantly for me set up properly with the correct jigs to the correct tolerances and cost around ?500 plus VAT. I have only done about 1500 miles since I have put the car back on the road so not a great test of the durability, but so far the diff remains leak/ noise free as it should be with resources that DANA have to ensure it is right.
