#1 Dynalite wiring alterations.

Post by rswaffie » Tue Apr 10, 2018 12:00 am

Hi,
When I was looking for dynamo upgrades, I decided to go for the Powerlite item from Holdens, along with their dummy regulator as the blurb suggested no wiring changes. However, as the Dynalite puts out 40amps, as opposed to about 20, I have been advised by Autosparks that the wiring from the Dynalite with need to be upgraded to 42/030 to 84/030 (25a to 42a).
Is it just the cable from Dynalite to dummy regulator or doo other connections also need upgraded wiring?

In my opinion its only the cable from the dynalite. My simple logic is that whilst the new unit is CAPABLE of higher current output you only need the extra if you have items which require it. An additional advantage is charging at low RPM so you don’t discharge the battery during long periods of idling (stuck on the m25) Normally this comes from cooling fans or modified lights for example. If these additions or mods have been made then those circuits should have their associated wiring gauges checked/ upgraded. The rest/original circuits are sized for the load they demand and will be correct along with the fusing.
I’m sure other can provide more scientific responses
Best regards

Thanks for the swift response Phil. I’ve got some new cable on order for the Dynalite and wanted to check I hadn’t missed something.
