#1 Dynamo repairer in Cambs/Beds/Herts/Bucks area?

Post by PhilBell » Mon Apr 16, 2018 12:39 pm

Hi locals

Anyone found a good auto electrical specialist able to repair dynamos in the above area?

Mine charges well and the bearings feel smooth with no play but I think it's the source of a light rattle that I first confused with pinking. Hard to pin it down to the dynamo with it on the car and impossible to replicate off the car without a test rig.

Hence my quest for an expert diagnosis and repair rather than go straight for an exchange recon unit.

Get the engine warm, remove fan belt and start car - it will be OK for a couple of minutes. If the rattle is gone then your problem is either the dynamo, water pump or jockey pulley. You can remove the jockey pulley (usually the source of rattles) and run the car without it, if only to test.

Hi David

Reconditioned water pump (old one leaking) and replacement jockey wheel (old one had a lot of play in the bearing and seemed dry when turned by hand) already on their way to me.

So I was looking for someone to test the dynamo before I put it back on the car.

Give Angus Moss a call and either he can get it done or recommend someone locally.
