#1 Help! Thread size for cage bolt.

Post by Malc » Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:48 pm

I am just putting my IRS back together. I have mounted the brakes etc and am just in the process of attaching the cage. However when I went to tighten up the four cage top bolts, one did not grip and just turned. The other three are fine. I therefore need to get the thread helicoiled (I’ll robably get all four done at the same time). However I need to know the thread size. Can anyone help? I have asked a couple of parts companies but they don’t know. Once I have the thread size I can then ask companies if they have the right thread size in imperial. Just what I need as I was hoping to get it all sorted by tomorrow!! Any advice gratefully received.

Found! Managed to Google and found the size from XKs Unlimited in the States! For information the size is UNC 1/2 x 13. I’ve ordered a helicoil kit which should be with me tomorrow so hopefully all back on track. Might as well fit the new water pump while waiting!

Hi Malc,
You speak about the screw with tapered head base and with a hole through their head
You must have 8 screws like this.
I think i remember that the 4 for securing axle to rear frame have a larger diameter than the others but nealy the same length for 2 of them.
Don't you make a simple inversion ?
