#1 Castrol Dot Synthetic Brake Fluid

Post by gmunro » Fri May 11, 2018 4:13 pm

Hi guys,

Has anybody had experience using Castrol Dot 4 Synthetic Brake Fluid? Not really sure about the "synthetic" bit. Is this like silicone or the standard brake fluid?

Grateful for any replies. Many thanks.

No experience with this one but DOT 4 isn't Silicone.
The silicone is DOT 5

George...just try a quick google search....i just did ....the first thing that came up was...All DOT3 & DOT4 fluid is synthetic...ie it is man made and does not have a petroleum base. DOT3 & 4 can safely be mixed.
However its from the net so is it true....i would do a bit of research... Steve

3,4,5.1 are organic esters and considered synthetic

5 is silicone and I would also consider it to be synthetic

Hi George

After having a leak on my brake fluid reservoir which took all my paint of the bulk head I had it replaced with this
Image

I haven’t noticed any difference with the brakes and if it leaks again I’m not going to have the hassle of repainting the bulk head.

Regards
