Jaguar engines have looser running clearances than modern lumps, so there isn't really any advantage that I can see in using the newer, low-viscosity lubricants. I'm sure some guys get good results from the lighter oils, but I've always been happy with Castrol 20/50 and frequent oil changes in all my old British iron.

Planning on getting E-Type No. 3 as soon as possible....

I drive maybe 1000 miles per year in each of my cars.

I change the oil every year.

I use Valvoline 20W/50 because it is cheap.

I use the cheapest 30wt I can buy. But I do change often, and send out the occasional sample for analysis, just to keep an eye on things. Modern stuff is great, but will make no difference in wear in an older, well running engine.
