On converting my US spec Series 2, 2+2 to right hand drive I have found that the new steering column I obtained is too short. Has anyone else come across this problem and if so how did you get over it?

Was your car originally equipped with power steering? Power steering lower columns are shorter, to accommodate the longer rack tower. Alternatively, it could be someone has given the column a whack and sheared the nylon pins causing it to collapse.

Hi Tom,
Yes, the car did originally have power steering. The original power steering rack has been removed and this has a longer rack tower which the lower part of the steering column attaches to, hence the reason why it's short. Had thought of lengthening the existing column by welding another piece in, but I don't want to compromise it's strength.
