Good evening
I am about to buy a set of pistons and then send off my block to be machined.
Are forged pistons a over priced luxury and am i just better of buying a set of pistons made by Mahle form SnG for a third of the price?

Unless you are thinking of endurance racing , or at any rate very serious racing with a much higher than standard power output, IMHO it will be a complete waste of money

I agree with Christopher. In addition, you are best to use 8:1 pistons as machining of the block and head over the years will potentially make your compression too high with 9:1 pistons.

On the subject of Mahle pistons, I have very recently been sold a set (at way over market price, long story) by a "well known engine builder" - who increases the price by a further £120 by supplying, at the same time, a set of American Grants piston-rings, as they say :
We won’t sell Mahle pistons without Grants rings, as yes in our opinion the rings they supply are no good.
Be interested to hears others' opinions and experiences on this subject.
