#1 Dzus callipers longer pedal travel

Post by Stevejaguar » Fri Feb 26, 2021 4:24 pm

Hi I have got Dzus callipers on my Series 1 2+2.
I seem to have much longer than expected pedal travel. It almost touches the bulkhead, Pumping the pedal doesn't bring the pedal any higher. Is this common or Have I still got air somewhere?
Rear callipers are standard

Steve

The fact they are Zeus should make no difference. The symptoms you describe are typical of one circuit having substantial amounts of air in it. This mimics the situation where one circuit fails , but the master cylinder is designed in such a way that you can still get some effort on the other circuit, but this requires a full stroke of the pedal. I suggest you bleed the rears again first , and see whether you get any braking effect on those cylinders. Make sure to hold down the pedal and shut the valve at the bottom of each stroke i.e. this is a 2 man job. Having done that, repeat the exercise on the fronts . If all else fails, it may be necessary to try loosening one of the intermediate joins and bleeding by stages through those, but this is messy and the paintwork must be washed immediately . Others may well suggest using a vacuum bleeding set : I have no experience of this but it seems to work

Hi Steve...never heard of Dzus calipers.....so maybee they need more fluid to move the pads?.....bleeding causes many a problem so wouldnt be supprised if you still have air....Steve

Hi All ad thanks for the replies.
Seems that I asked a similar question in 2017 but forgotten all about it with the car being laid up. The answer then was that there is air in the system.
Dzus, Zeus, neither, they are Coopercraft when I have just been to look closely.
Thanks for the replies though.
Steve
