I had to change the standard UM needles for UE (the UO were far too rich) meaning higher fuel consumption. It is nothing more than a foam-covered wire mesh (you cant lean on it) with corresponding filtering ability. Looks the part and nice induction roar on hard acceleration. I really like it.

Thanks Mark, most grateful - did you try both sets of UO and UE needles? If so I’ll go for your recommendation. Also did you just bolt on or are you using pancakes inside to smooth the airflow? James

If the air filter looks like this, I recommend it. It filters the air is re usable after a clean and sounds great.

You will usually need UE needles (the filter allows more air in which weakens the mixture with UM needles). If you have a highly tuned engine you may need UO needles but if you are going in that direction you will need to set the car up on a rolling road.

The Mangoletsi filter is made by ITG but in the shape and colour that is a homage to the stock plenum and it fits easier than the standard ITG 'sausage' filter that James is using. It was designed specifically for the E-Type after all and I had input into its design. There is no need to do any other modifications in an attempt to improve air flow as the stock inlet manifold stack is used and that was designed by Jaguar to produce the optimum air flow. There is a long thread in the Upgrades forum explaining the way the various filters work.

You will need to do regular maintenance on the filter which involves using the ITG solvent for cleaning and then the ITG oil to maintain protection: http://itgairfilters.com/category/acces ... -cleaners/

And it would be nice if SNG sales staff were actually aware of that David when questioned.

This is going to a stupid question James, but, erm, what happened to your carburettors? :scratchheadyellow:

Morning Jeremy

The carbs are tucked up in a box with the intake, air filter and plenum, 123 tune distributor and linkages ready to go back on my next project.

I was going to reuse the whole lot (they were rebuilt in 2016), but I had in mind one of those foam filters that dangle off the plenum, occupying the same space as the original cylinder. However, i might just go in this ITG direction and do the jetting at the same time.

I think both options wold sound good and help make more power.

 No, though I do think as a long term (and I must stress mainly happy) SNG customer, sometimes when trying to extract technical information from sales staff, interrogation skills might indeed come in handy.

Guys I just put this filter on the car as I’m always trying new and improved ideas. Some work , some don’t.
ILOVE the Rob Beeres pulley set up
What a pleasure!
So with 7,000 break in miles on my 4.2 1967 coupe
I tried the filter!
I’ll keep the barrel underneath for now
But it looks like soon it will be gone!
Overall
1. I’m getting a lot more air
2. With more air my BELL exhaust got throatier!
Not as vacuum cleaner sound!
3. At a LONG light the needle creeps up only slightly after twice the amount of time at a light!
4. Going through the gears it has an extra umph.
5. You can tell it was strangled before even with a kn filter!
I just did 80 miles today in 55 degree weather
No gas smell no blow by smell no hiss
I. Like. It!!!!
So easy to switch back too
But I probably won’t
Thank you SNG
Ps these motors get a little loud when running hot
Running cool is the sweat spot
Well that’s my opinion
Good luck

Did you change the SU needles Joey? The extra air flow will make the engine run lean with UM needles so you might want to try UE. Jaguar tests showed the "air silencer" reduced power by 6% and the baffles silencers reduced power by 10%. So what you are saying about the driving experience confirms that.

Here’s what I’ve got
I already pulled the canister!
Look how lovely!
I kept the UM for now as I feel the response but not the leanness .
The temps outside was 55 and dropped to 46.
So I’ll run it all week as changing needles takes me about 10 minutes
It’s sooooo fluid through out the range
I also treat myself to 100 octane unleaded NO ethanol
So maybe that’s why I don’t feel the pull back or leanness?
Let me drive it through all temp ranges first.
I really like it!
All I need is a 5 speed OR if someone makes me one a 6 speed auto! That fits!!!
I’m game
This filter was a great easy and easily reversible treat!
Gtjoey1314
Plus the tone is a bit deeper out the back!

The latest mangoletsi ITG air filter shown on the SNG site is a dark charcoal/black colour rather than the light grey shown above - is there any difference in design, and do we know if the grey is still available?

I’ve got one which is now taking space in my overcrowded garage.

Fitted it for a short while but frankly I found it a poorly made fragile rubbish item. Despite what others have said all I noted was an increase in noise (and yes I did change the needles).

I’ve gone back to the standard canister until I find some of better quality.

Tim, Each his own, it was on my wall as well.
Ill drive for awhile , I like the response AND the throat sound out the exhaust.
We shall see, like my EZ STEERING, Once it was in, it transformed the car.
I have noticed that the upgrades I have done over the past 30 years.I never break down. !
So will report back.

I made my own using a wire mesh frame covered with 2 layers of pond filter matting , one course and one fine , sprayed them with WD40 to act as a dust trap . Seems to work ok and cost me a couple of quid .Coupled with the straight through exhaust , it sounds good without being annoying .

Update…..
Note that carb base spacer does not sweat.
Also the top hats and filter are all ice cold
Where the original trapped in heat.
So at lights my needle does not bump up till a long while
The gain is wonderful
I love it

Why would you do that when there are established manufacturers of air filters with years of research and development and huge investment in plant and materials behind them?

My engine is too precious to entrust to an amateur attempt at air filtration for the sake of saving a few quid! It's a bit like using cling film and elastic bands as a condom substitute. :banghead:
