I was wondering if anyone can help me - I must have assembled something wrong and cannot quite figure out what - it _is_ embarrassing...

Anyway, I cannot align the handbrake levers - the left lever seems to be pointing downwards too much.

Please take a lok at the photos:

Hi Tadek,
I have just rebuilt my IRS, you should be able to move by hand the handbrake levers up or down to align up with the linkages.

Hope that helps.

Hi Tadek

Had a similar problem with my IRS rebuild a few years ago. I don’t think you have done anything wrong in assembling the parts.
The arms will rotate to the right position to align with the handbrake mechanism - but it can require quite a bit of force to achieve this.
Suggest you clamp a length of wood to the handbrake arm to provide suitable leverage to move the arm to the right position.

Nigel,
Up or down?? I am not sure I understand - thy are pivoted on the special long bolt - they can only move in one axis, perpendicular to the brake disc...

Chris,
I would have thought so, that I need to force something, However, when I disassembled it 2 years ago, it WAS ok - take a look:

Tadek,

Judging from your photos it is clear all was ok before the IRS was dismantled. It looks like the rear calipers and handbrake assemblies have been rebuilt, during which it is likely that the handbrake arm pivot block has moved relative to the handbrake assembly. This is what I found when I reassembled my IRS.

From your photos, it looks like the RH arm needs to be rotated upwards to align with the handbrake mechanism. Once this is done, it should not be necessary to readjust unless the IRS is completely dismantled.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Hi Tadek..i think you have the handbrake caliper parts assembled incorrectly.....this photo is from an xj6 but similar note the shapes of the arms...you have a left hand and right hand side its easy to mix up the parts..Steve

Steve, you are a genius!

I never thought the pivots of the LH and RH Inner Pad Carrler Assemblies are at different angles - I thought they were a mirror image!..

Thanks!
