S1 fitting torsion bars
#1 S1 fitting torsion bars
:rvrence the torsion bars is best to fit the front or rear of the bar first. After fitting the spacer in place of shck absorber.

The front must be fitted to the wishbone first....then the rear bracket slid rearwards onto the splines and the bolt holes lined up....however its trial and error untill you get the correct orientation of the splines at the front....the bar is a vernier adjustment with diffetent number of splines front and rear....the service manual gives a very detailed description of how to fit/adjust....Steve

#3 Re: S1 fitting torsion bars
Key thing to understand, which - as Steve says - is amply detailed in the Manual, is that you HAVE to have a setting-bar with correct-diameter holes on correct centres when you are fitting a torsion bar.
There are 24 splines on one end, 25 on the other, that gives 24x25 potential front/rear couplings, or 600 in all, which equates to a precision of 0.6°.
And this determines the ride-height.
