If anyone is planning to review their wiring loom I thought it might be helpful to document the various gauges of cable you are likely to come across and their likely uses:
Typical Sizes and Uses:
9/0.30 0.65mm2 5.75A 2.3mm OD: Side/tail lamps, indicators etc.
14/0.30 1.00mm2 8.75A 2.6mm OD: Side/tail lamps, indicators, fog lamps, general wiring.
28/0.30 2.00mm2 17.5A 3.3mm OD: Head lamps, wipers, screen heaters, petrol pumps, etc.
44/0.30 3.00mm2 27.5A 3.7mm OD: Charging circuits - dynamo, main feeds.
65/0.30 4.5mm2 35A 5mm OD: Heavy duty charge circuits, alternator feeds.
84/0.30 6.0mm2 42A 5.7mm OD: Heavy duty feeds - starter motor
For example 14/0.30, 1.0mm2 refers to 14 strands of 0.30mm diameter wire giving a total cable conductor area of 1.0mm2.
