Good news, I have mine fitted up having got the correct bracket, pulley, fan and belt however the engine won’t be back in till I’ve re-fitted the picture frame and front suspension. I note that the alternator I removed had three wires but only two wires required for the Dynamator. That confuses me but I’m easily confused!

Hi all

In case anyone sees this thread the Dynamator has failed.

No support from Powerspark even though it's only 18 months and a couple of hundred miles of use.

Try elsewhere!

Yes, confusing isn't it.

Choice between either :

Powerlite - who make a dynamo-alternator called the Dynalite.

or

Powerspark - who make a dynamo-alternator called the Dynamator.

Would the cheap one, with the poor product and the poor warranty, by any chance be trying to confuse buyers by using a confusing company name and a confusing brand name ?

What has happened to your Dynamator to make it fail? Interested to know as I have fitted one but only done about 1000 miles since.

Hi Pete

It started being temperamental and only suddenly charging at above 2500rpm ish

I bought a smaller pulley on advice but it made no difference

Then a bearing whine started to develop and on investigation there is White powder on the fan, and now the ignition light is on even when it’s charging so I’ve stopped using it pending fitment of a quality replacement!

Interesting update on the situation with these.

Powerlite are now supplying Powerspark with Dynalites, as Powerspark got fed up with the 50% return rate on their "own" cheap copy, the Dynamator.

So looks like Dynalite is indeed the way to go to.

Lifetime warranty.

Michale Hadley (MD at Powerlite) answers emails, always a good sign, and stands behind his product.

accuspark.co.uk still list the dynamator on their website for 180.- for the C42 pos earth (the Dynalite is 525.-)

Interesting. I have a very slightly-used + ve earth Powerlite E-type kit I wanted to use on the D, but it's too big for the space above the inclined engine mount. If they are guaranteed for life I feel a lot more comfortable selling it for half new price if anyone wants to PM about it.
