Front suspension wishbones

I'm about to start refurbishment of my front suspension of my 62 FHC. I've read that the ball pin of the top wishbone acts directly on the wishbone, leading to early wear. The solution being to machine the wishbone to take a seat for the ball pin. Has anyone had any experience of this or any advice?

Would anyone also advise me on the correct finishes for the wishbones, fulcrum shafts and torsion bar? I recall the wishbones can be nickel plated (correct me if I'm wrong...)

Hi Wen, a modification is available from CMC (they can send you the parts and instructions). You just need a machine shop that can do the work for you. Don't think its that difficult.

Regarding finish, you can nickel plate (I did mine) but remember to give them a coat of clear lacquer when you get them back otherwise they will rust in spots. On the very early cars, I believe they were black. Don't get the torsion bars plated - paint or powder coat them only.
