#1 door hinges

Post by attwood » Tue Mar 25, 2008 7:42 pm

Having just fitted the doors to my S2 OTS I have discovered some play in the hinges on both sides which was not apparent before I fastened the doors to them. I can lift the trailing edge of each door about 3-4mm.
As far as I can see it is possible to buy new hinges but not individual parts of hinges. Does this mean they are not repairable? I should be able to grind off the welds and remove the pins, but are there replaceable bushes inside the cast part of the hinge and is it possible to get new pins?
How much play is acceptable? Is there any play in new hinges?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Dave.

Dave

Any reasonable machine shop should be able to repair your hinges. I'd probably ream them out a bit and them make up an oversized pin.

Having never played with a new hinge I wouldn't like to say what play you'd have but I'm sure somebody with a less used car than mine will go and give their door a lift to see if you can feel any.
