I ran into another problem as I was assembling the diaphragm parts during installation of Monocoque lights. The connector block disintegrated and

I bought a new one BUT I realized that a number of black wires (ground ?) were not connected to the block although one was. In the attached photo, you can see three black wires that are not connected and one (with grey paint on it) that is. It seems to me that I should just connect all of them together but I thought I would ask for advice.

They're earths so yes you could, as long as at least one of them is actually earthed. From the look of your picture though the one in the cloth loom is 2 ends of the same wire and the other one is the earth to the headlight globe. Your wire with grey paint on it is likely the actual earth that comes from the main loom in the engine bay via the 8 pin plug harness.
There is a way to connect all of these into the block, on both sides of one connector, so that they are all held by it and all earth. BUT figuring it out without a photo of the correct positioning is like one of those impossible 3D puzzles. And I'm sorry but I can't currently find a photo for you.

Thanks for the input. Will look closely at the one wire to see if it is actually two ends of same wire.
