#1 Churchill J17 tool dimensions

Hello,

I am looking for the J17 tool dimensions. Anyone has one and could measure it up?

Norman, Andrew, many thanks.

I compared the 2 drawings and they differ slightly with the critical dimensions. After round of to 1/100mm it looks as follows:
Norman's drawing translated to mm would be: 73.98 / 79.22 mm
Andrew: 74.10 / 79.20 mm +- 0.05mm
Another measurement I found on JL: 74.09 / 79.36 mm


I wonder where the differences come from.

I have never used this tool before - I presume the larger dimension is the one that actually settles the rope seal??

It might be just conversion from imperial to metric. As I said I didn't make that image; I'm a jackdaw and collect everything I see and file it away for later use.

I do have access to an original sizing tool although it is not at my house.

If you need let me know and I can measure it with a metric vernier for you next week.

PS looking again at my picture I'm wondering whether the 2 critical sizes are in fact 2.900" and 3.100" (close to the 74.1 and 79.2 mm dimensions)

Hello Tadek,

You are correct. The first and smaller diameter is the tunnel bore guide followed by the chamfered ramp to final sizing. The tool undersizes the seal slightly. I have both Zelenda and Churchill variants if you need to verify sizes. (Imperial only sorry). I believe there is a thread on JL where a few of us posted the dimensions.

Do you have a micrometer you could measure it with? Any ("" or mm) format is fine..

Help is much appreciated, I prefer to do one to the right size..

Confirming measurements. Churchill J17 small diameter 2.92 inches 74.1 mm with this diameter 1 7/8 inches 47 mm with a 1mm 45 degree chamfer at the end. The midpoint between small and large diameters is 3/8 inch 9mm chamfer of abut 15 degrees then the large diameter 3.12 inches 79.2 mm with this diameter for a distance of 1 1/4 inches 32 mm.

I would presume than that 3.1195 - 3.12 sounds optimal.
