Upper wishbone gaiter

I have searched the forum, however:
I've never had much success getting the gaiters to stay clipped onto the front upper wishbones. Raising the car up onto jacks such that the wheels are hanging free almost always has the gaiter come loose from the wishbone. Getting it clipped back into place isn't easy .
New gaiters C43216, OEM version. But older cheaper ones in black were just as bad.
Do others have the same problem or have suggestions (polite, please )?

Geoff - the clear plastic ones from e.g. Hutsons are much more durable, but you may still have the problem of then slipping off

Chris, clear plastic ones from SNGB, they said the factory (JLR?) versions are the ones people seem to think are best. Possibly the same as Hutsons?
Steve, only bought the gaiters as the wishbones are upgraded with plastic inserts the balljoints fit into. But already had those adapter rings from previous gaiters. Don’t they sit inside the gaiter to help keep the shape? The double ring just above the letters ANG?
Andrew, locking wire will be next on my list to try.
The standard wire clips don’t seem up to the job.

Hi Geoff.....yes the ring fits inside the gaiter...if you dont use it the gaiter will be too big on a standard wishbone..how is the wishbone modified..is the part where the gaiter fits as original or altered...Steve

Hi Steve, the wishbones are originals which have had only the inner cup machined to accept the plastic insert into which the balljoint fits. No other changes.
I’ve had this same problem with older wishbones hence asking now I’m fitting the upgraded ones.

Think you will need to fit the rings ..... part number C22972...note that there is a small lip inside so you have to fit it the correct way up as far as im aware...Steve

Gentlemen, thank you all. All sorted and used locking wire to secure, let's see how it goes.
I've done a fair amount of safety wire locking in my time but this was certainly a slippery fellow
