Correct distributor position?

I am finishing my engine assembly and am trying to position the distributor.

In order to position the cables according to the manual:





I would have to place the distributor with the vacuum unit almost touching the water pipe:





Otherwise, I would have to move the cables by one connection and it would look like this:





And, before you ask, the distributor shaft is positioned according to the manual:





What's your experience ? How should it be properly done?

Hi Tadek.....is your timing pointer set at 10deg btdc (static)on the crank pully...and your vernier scale on the vacume unit set to the mid point...Steve

Trouble is, that in such a position the vacuum pipe touches the water pipe. I could move the water pipe inwards on the bracket a bit, but the two will be very, very close...

I know this photo very well. There are others that indicate same position, too.

However I am always sceptical to photos where something is wrong, such as the vacuum suction pipe must have been broken off and the tip was replaced with the rubber angle connector from a later car....


Well, I guess you are right, I just need t move the water pipe a bit..
