#1 Gear stick detached

Post by Granthar » Sat Mar 28, 2020 8:40 am

Hi guys

As I went into reverse my gear stick (shifter) came out- literally! Managed to get it back in. I assume the retention bolt/ nut is somehow missing? Took a look underneath but no access. Would likely need to remove gearbox? A big job. Can anyone share experience or point towards a similar thread. Many thanks. Car goes great and I am enjoying driving it at the moment, being careful not to pull on the lever

Easy fix. Take the centre console out then remove the metal cover for the tunnel.

The gear stick is held in at the bottom with a nyloc nut.

Replace and enjoy!

My thanks, a garage said it would be several hours going from bottom.

It won’t just be the nut you'll need. You will need to replace the bushing inside the gearstick as well.

I figured that, parts 57-60 I would guess. Am I likely to be missing the parts labeled 49-53? Probably cheap to order them and see
