Hello there

I'm after a bit of help please

I'm converting my series 3 to manual and I see in various parts drawings that there's a spacer fitted between the clutch master cylinder and the pedal box.

I've had a shop around and see the usual places are on back order and I found one on eBay (photo attached) for £36 that looks like it's been nibbled out by a beaver .

I'll CNC one but I need to know the thickness... I'll match the profile of the master cylinder so it blends in nicely.

If be really grateful if someone could be good enough to measure the thickness for me and let me know?

If anybody wants one I can make a few as easily as one... (Foc)

The hole is for a 5/16" stud so I'm guessing it's 3/8" thick.

How much???

I've got one in my garage somewhere that I'll measure up for you. I'll try to do it tomorrow.

I remember being horrified at the finish too. I made my own in the end.

Here you go. One caveat - mine is for a series 1 3.8 with Kelsey Hayes set-up.

I was so unimpressed with the one I received that I made my own, which was an altogether more satisfactory job, even though I cut it by hand and chain-drilled and filed the centre hole out. I didn't have access to any machinery at the time.

If I remember correctly, i think i measured the master cylinder, rather than the abomination that was supposed to be a spacer. The thickness of the spacer is 11.4mm or 0.450", which doesn't seem to be any standard material thickness but then the edges are so heavily burred it isn't easy to get a consistent measurement. I found the thickness to be incorrect anyway and it prevented me from getting the correct pedal/cylinder settings so I made mine thinner to suit.

Presumably you are aware they are made from aluminium?

Thanks I appreciate that. I'll try it at 11.4mm and see where that puts the clutch pedal - I can always make another slightly different thickness if need be but I have a starting point.

When I get my master cylinder I can check those other dimensions and draw it up...

I think I have seen thickness is a bit of trial and error. It was with me. Alignment with the brake pedal plain is the goal and brake pedal location is not a given. Also, the MC you are using will make a difference too. Trial and error can be a pain in the neck(literally) on S1 clevis pin setup. I think the original spacers were not a work of art either.

On my S1 when aligning the pedal heights I first put plain washers between the clutch MC and housing to simulate the spacer. That allowed me to settle on the necessary thickness without touching the clevis which I agree is a pain....
