After cleaning it today and leaving it to run for a bit I noticed a liquid leaking from the right side front wing. I can't figure out where its coming from or when it started. I had just come back from a 100 mile round trip.

I could smell fuel on my first run of the year. It wasn’t to that level but there was fuel on the bottom of two carbs and you could see where it had dripped into the undertray. I had to tighten all the bolts on the fuel lines into the carbs and that seems to have done the trick. I think ethanol hardens the washers and they effectively loosen.

A similar thing happened on my old Lotus Elan and the rubber seal at the bottom of the glass bowl on the fuel pump had hardened and would no longer seal.

I've found where its coming out of. See below. Its from the right of this part and is running down the pipe. Quite a lot of fuel.

Those banjos do leak.

Try tightening it up, being aware that it is threaded into a relatively soft die cast top on the fuel bowl.

If that doesn't work try replacing the washers. Both fibre and aluminium washers are used for that. IF you have no luck you could try swapping one for the other.

I'd replace the fibre washers. There is one either side of the banjo. Chances are the old ones have gone hard or have cracked. For a few pounds get a pack of six and replace the fibre washers on all three banjos. They are available from the usual Jaguar suppliers or from Burlen Fuel systems...Fuel leaks are not good!!!!. Remember that when you take the banjo bolts off there should be a small gauze filter inside...don't loose it. Tighten fjrmly but, as abowie says, take care as the casing is alloy. In my experience you may need to check again for leaks after a week as the washes do compress and then the bolt slacks off a little.

Thanks guys will try that tonight when I get home. It needs to go back to the garage as the brakes are sticky too so may get them to change the washers at the same time. However it was restored about 5 years ago so I do wonder why these have gone so soon. Hopefully a low torque tighten will stop the leak and get it to the garage.

for a few pennies those two gaskets next to the banjos can be be replaced

When the ignition is off there should be no pressure in the system so minimal fuel spill to change over

if you take that approach you can be confident the leak is fixed for a long time, and little need to watch over ? fuel leaks aways good to fix
