#1 Exhaust manifold gaskets

Post by tim wood » Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:45 pm

A quick question chaps.
When fitting the gasket between the manifolds and the head do you fit dry and tighten up or use a smear of exhaust gasket sealer. I’m thinking of a slight smear of the same sealer as used on the pipe joint but happy to take advice.

Thanks.

As I don't like taking gasket scrapers to alloy cylinder heads, I use a very light smear of high temp silicone on both sides and allow it to partially dry before installation. Not so much for sealing, but rather to make it easy to remove the gasket the next time the manifold comes off.

High temp silicone for me too, otherwise you will get irritating little leaks.
