Hi, My nearside courtesy light switch is missing and there is just a large gap where the switch should be (see photo). I can obviously get someone to weld a nut in position for the switch to screw into but I wondered why this gap exists and if there is a different type of switch that should be fitted (there are two small holes near the gap that suggests that something should be screwed here). The drivers side is as normal (see photo).
Thanks

Neither look normal. The switches mine have are basically opposite the front of the inside of the door..above and to the left on your drivers side door..the door has a chromed oval(ish) pad that pushes against the switch plunger when you close they door....
The switches clip into holes....no screws...
Yours look like they are right by the hinges....?

I think that is because my car is a 2+2. They have a screw in switch. Others have a push in switch.

That hole looks too precise to be someone’s bodge. Is your car new enough to be of the era when US cars got a 2 way switch on the driver’s door? One pole turned the light on, and the other sounded a buzzer if the key were left in the ignition. Mine has that, the driver’s door switch is mounted on a pressed plinth.

I've had the car since 1976 and it's only now that I've decided to sort this issue out. It is a genuine RHD car, late series 1, so seems odd to have the buzzer arrangement; particularly as it is on the passenger side. However, maybe the solution is to find a switch that has the buzzer arrangement.
Thanks for the information.

SNG has this info relating to the door hinge:
Door Hinge Left Hand
Door hinge - left hand side, long wheel base models (2+2) only. Has aperture instead of weld nut for courtesy light switch.

Great information here- thank you. I guess that sometime before I purchased the car the hinge must have been replaced with a series 2 hinge that has the large aperture. I don't suppose that you know the part number of the switch that fits this aperture or where it is available? I've looked for it and can't find it anywhere. Cheers

If it’s the same as the series 3, C32567. Discontinued though.

Yes, just this second found it in my series 3 parts catalogue and can't find a supplier anywhere on the internet. Although it appears to have been used in quite a few different models of jaguar. thank you.

Great information on here, thanks.
I've just replaced my LH door hinge with a used item that has the screw-in light switch. My old one had the plate-mounted type and 2 extra wires, which I hadn't realised was for a buzzer, however can't get any noise, when the key is in the ignition & switch in any position.
Anyone know what the buzzer looks like, or where it is?? The wiring around the ignition switch has had mods in the past, so don't know if the buzzer is actually there or still connected.
Chris - did you manage to get a switch? I won't need my old one if that's any use to you, although not actually sure it works yet!
