Hi All,

Ive just had the IRS refurbed with new Zeus callipers, servo redone with service kit, new master cylinder and refurbed callipers and discs on the front.

Having bought the car as a non runner and never driven an etype previously i dont know if the brake peddle is as it should be....

There’s a bit of travel before then a slight judder sensation on pressing the peddle. What should the peddle feel like? Should it be smooth and Additional resistance as you press harder?

Sorry for the stupid question and suggestions of what might be the problem would be helpful

It does not immediately sound normal, but it rather depends on what you mean by "judder" . Is this something you are feeling only through the pedal ? Or is it felt through the car itself ? In any event, new discs and pads take a while to settle in, so I would give it at least 50 miles with frequent light brake applications before you decide that something is wrong . If after that period there is still a definite judder, the first thing I would check would be for run-out on the front discs - although you need a dial gauge to measure this, you do not need one to see it - any fixed pointer close to the disc will do

PS are you sure that the front wheel bearings are set correctly ? Any excess play will cause wobble which might be felt as judder

Just to add. Maybe judder isn’t a great description. It actually feels like a modern car when the abs comes on and it’s trying to not let the wheels lock under hard braking ( I’m not hard breaking)

Hmmm ... that sounds more like disc runout . Warped discs seem unlikely if they are new, so an installation problem such as slack bearings may be the cause . Perhaps before you go out again it might be an idea to jack up each front wheel and do the standard tests of looking for play in the 12 o'clock / 6 o'clock positions and then in the 9 o'clock/ 3 o'clock positions
