#1 Choke Control Travel

Post by Series1 Stu » Mon Mar 01, 2021 12:33 pm

Hi

I am in the process of installing the driver's instrument panel in my 3.8 FHC and have come to fit the choke cable.

I have measured the cable travel produced by moving the choke control throughout its full travel at around 1¼" (32mm). At the same time, I have measured the movement of the choke lever on the centre carb (where the cable inner connects) to be around 5/8" (16mm). Pretty much a 2:1 ratio.

I get the feeling that I have missed something somewhere (or something is missing) because the dash control is not going to go full travel under these conditions.

Picture of cable attachment point below:

All words of wisdom gratefully received.

Stuart : as far as I remember , the choke mechanism is designed to be a two stage operation . The first half of the lever travel opens the throttles slightly, and only having passed that point does the cable begin to operate the mixture controls

Thanks, you are of course correct.

I must have had a mental aberration. I've just gone up to the garage and re-checked and realised that I was reluctant to "force" the mixture controls open. Now that I've done this I realise that we get the second half of the travel.

Thanks again, Christopher.
