Hi all,
I know it’s a XK140 and not an e type but as some members have both and there’s a lot of knowledge out there, can anyone tell me the operation mechanisms workings for the boot lock
Sng sell the parts but I’m unsure of the way it’s set up and the service book doesn’t explain
Any assistance appreciated
Keith

I had an XK140 for a while

and had a problem with the boot lock, after a while it would not release, allowing the boot to open. Search answers talked about drilling a hole through the skin to release it!! Horrible thought!!

There are two locking mechanisms for the lid, 1 each side which are released by 2 thin bowden cables actuated by the push button release. 1 had broken in my car. The link below is how I sorted it. The link inside my post provides pictures of the push button mechanism.

I sorted it and posted my method here:

Hope this helps.

P.S. It looks like I never completely reported on the fix but I think there's enough info there for you, I hope

Thanks for the info
Boy it seemed hassle for you.
I have all the chrome work outside but the boot is secured with two leather straps, this being an ex race car perhaps originally removed for weight saving ?
I was looking to put back to original but might well leave as is, it looks racy
Thanks for info, I’ll consider the options
