Defroster grid used as radio aerial??

I would like to fit a period radio to my car modified to accept an external input, but I would also like the radio itself to work. But I absolutely will not fit a regular aerial to the car. Has anyone tried using the defroster grid as an aerial? I would try it on a suck it and see basis, but I don't have a radio lying around. Everything else, but not a radio!
I used a Bose Soundlink Mini to great effect in my big Healey, and I suspect that's what I'll end up with in this car.
