Steve : First you need to remove the radio console. This attaches at its rear lower and upper corners on each side to 4 studs which project sideways from small tags welded to the bulkhead. You remove the nuts and pull the wings of the console out past the studs and then withdraw the console backwards and upwards . The centre panel can then be lowered but you are still left with the problem of having to remove the console each time
Heuer gave me the answer to this problem . Remove the facia lower legend strip and its metal plate by unscrewing the 4 screws which point upwards into the centre panel. Discard the centre 2, and either buy 2 thumbscrews or make your own by gluing eg tap washers to the existing screws and use these in the two outer screwholes. The legend strip etc can then be undone / replaced from the centre panel in about 15 seconds to lower it even with the console in place
Edit : I've just seen you are an S2, and a 2+2 at that, and from memory the 2+2 has a different arrangement so the advice may not be relevant

Steve : I've just looked at a friend's 2+2 . The console removal is the same, but the lower legend strip on an S2 is different, so you will need to examine the lower end of the drop down centre section to see how it attaches when you have removed the console
