#1 New engine mounts

Post by keithmac » Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:57 pm

After reading a post on engine mounts, I checked mine and sure enough , they were sagged enough to allow the carb linkage to hit the frame. Since it was mentioned that this could cause the throttle to stick wide open It was a safety issue so time for new ones. I chose to left the engine with a crane rather than from the sump after loosening all pertinent connections.
Look at the difference. These are the polypropylene ones.
Three hours and some ( more ) character building later the Linkages are well clear now.

Having the throttle go full open after the carburettor linkage fouls the upper frame rail is a life-changing experience. The front engine mounts were part of the problem, but a previous owner had also ignored the condition of the rear mount (the bobbin was missing) and had backed off the adjustment of the engine stabilizer. Checking the clearance between the carb linkage and frame rail should be part of your regular maintenance routine.

Planning on getting E-Type No. 3 as soon as possible....

Wise words. Rear mount and engine stabilizer already checked .
see before and after pictures of the rear mount after the new engine mounts.
