Since years I am trying to figure out which is the correct lever for which application.

The 3.8 and 4.2 SP book identifies the part as C.18270 connecting lever assembly

I have several of these boxes here, some do have a lever length of 4.5" and others of 5" length.

I did not find a difference between 3.8 and 4.2. The minting position is the same, hence the distance to the bulkhead also.

I thought it could be of an automatic, but also there the SP book says the same part number.

The both work, and the longer lever obviously gives more movement at the throttle.

But who can tell what for are the short and theblong versions for.

C18302 = RHD
C18270 = LHD

now I am getting there.
Is that because the RHD box is further up on the bulkhead it does use the shorter lever?

Shame the parts book did not mention a length.

But I have solved my long term mystery.

Eventually we found out, that the short one is for 3.8 LHD cars which have a P clip to hold the brake vacuum hose at the bulkhead and requires a shorter lever to avoid hitting and limiting the travel of the arm.

I thought the LHD cars had the ball pin facing the other way - I am sure I modified one from LH to RH by turning it round. I think I still have it somewhere as I didn't use it in the end as it was too pitted. That came from 885293 and as far as I can tell was original to the car.
