Dear all,

looking for suitable scissor lift for maintenance work to underside of car.
any recommendations for suitable type?

Anti theft devices.
any recoemndations i.e. suitable alarm, immobiliser, steering lock, wheel clamps?

Steering wheel.....disklok. wheel clamp.....I have the big triangular one with a chain. I have lift posts posts at the bottom of the drive. Alarms....pretty much useless IMO as nobody takes much notice of them and most DIY ones are easily silenced.. Get a tracker fitted as a last resort if the worst happens. Park a modern car in front of the garage at night...

Police told me the best deterrent is a large canine. Next best is as many things that will delay and hinder the thief. The longer they are messing the more chance of being caught...remember they may well not bother driving it away but load into a trailer....mine was! I had a tracker though and mine came home....

Some suggestions.
Alarm - a cheap one designed for a motorcycle, wired to detect door opening and capable of detecting movement. The motorcycle alarms are compact and low draw and can be left “on” for some while without significant battery drain.

A cheap tracker and a sim only phone deal. I think mine cost £30 plus £10 for the sim. Once installed (magnetic case means it can be hidden anywhere inside or outside (under) the car) it responds to a request with its current location and whether it is moving. Can be programmed to respond to movement when armed.

Simple on/off switches for the fuel pump and maybe the coil feed. These can be wired from the fuse panel, ie they are fully reversible mods.

Datatag. Or similar. This is a security marking system designed again for motorcycles. Acid etching unique ID for glass and metals, transponders for easily removed items like seats.

When at home, a Rottweiler. A real one. Don’t over feed it - keep it lean and hungry.

If you fear the rottweiler.... 12 gooses are a excellent warning alarm sound.... Choose the capitole one
I have fitted a removable steering wheel, a hidden switch for the fuel pump and battery, and soon a GPS warning tracer. :

Another favourite is a hidden battery isolator. Do a search here and on Jag-Lovers for a variety of installations. My favourite was hidden in the locked glove box.

Take a wheel off ...makes it very difficult to shift then

I had a battery cutoff with removable key on my '65, along with a hidden switch for the fuel pump. I would sometimes remove the distributor rotor, and run a length of heavy chain through the left-front wheel and lower A-arm. You can't prevent a really determined thief, but the other 99.9% want things done as quickly and easily as possible.

A quick and easy steering lock can be created by using a pad lock through the steering column universal joint under the dash.
