Hello all,
I am looking at buying a suitable platform lift / scissor lift for [underbody] maintenance on my e type.
Anyone recommend a suitable access platform or an suitable alternative?

Hi Bill...a friend has the 7530D....it lets you get access to the center area.....he has used it to drop the engine out....the model you show has rollers that roll on the garage floor to lift. ..the model above rolles in its own base plates....its a more usefull tool but more expensive......worth it in my opinion to have center access eithout the cross members getting in the way....Steve

Hello,
I chose the Autolift3000 solution a month ago. The 2 trays slide and can adapt in width to the Jaguar E-type, by putting them to the minimum. To ensure maximum safety, I add 2 pieces of tube to block the trays at a minimum.
This system allows the car to be mounted at 60 cm in the middle, so approximately 90 cm at the level of the bumper. My ceiling is 2.60m so I couldn't climb very high anyway.
Of course this system has flaws like other mobile systems. It is difficult to intervene in the middle of the car, such as taking out a gearbox on a rear-wheel drive. To dismantle the exhaust, on the other hand, it is possible.
Nevertheless, I am extremely satisfied with this product because it meets my needs: I wanted a safe product of good quality (not Chinese), which carries more than 1.5 T, and which moves and does not take up space. It weighs only 45 kg, with 11 centimeters of height when folded. Equivalent products only carry 1.5 T, weigh 70 kg and are taller when folded. Thus, it can be easily stored against the wall.
Here is the demonstration video:
Best regards.

Have any forum member used this lift. It gets very good reviews from the Morgan fraternity and other classic car enthusiasts but is it suitable for an E-Type?

Hi Paul....very much depends what you want it for....as its a US product it would be worth you asking the guys on Jaglovers....if its good for an E type im sure someone will have one....looks like the cross brace front and rear lifts a its raise so will be in the way for quite a few jobs and the lift isnt high enough to drop engine.......the one i mentioned in the above post is good as it can be left on the garage floor and you drive over it when not in use.....Steve

Can anyone confirm to me that something like the autolift 3000 (just watched the video) is suitable for lifting an E Type 2+2 ?
I am a new owner and was advised to jack up carefully using for example a suspension point for the jack.
Is it as simple as the video shows, placing the autolift roughly in the centre of the body.....or, is placement critical to avoid damaging something?
I like the idea of some sort of simple way to elevate the car for minor maintenance and inspections
Any other suggestions? I am in West Sussex, UK
Thanks for any advice or comment

Thanks for the reply Steve....being careful I can understand....but apart from anything obvious like exhaust pipes....is there anything I need to watch for? certainly I can appreciate not wanting to squeeze brake pipes or wiring but I am more concerned about damaging the body from doing this incorrectly
Or is the area of floor supporting the weight of the car large enough to avoid damage ?
The garage is about 2 metres tall, 6m by about 2.8m wide. not sure I have enough room for a more serious lift

Pm sent.......I would not be lifting the car on the floors......also dont like the look of the tilting lift...whats the locking mechanism like?.......lot of weight front and rear on an E type and you dont want it se sawing as there could be a potential to damage the long overhang of the front/rear.......just my opinion and have never seen one in use....Steve

Is it possible to use a Quick Jack on a 1969 OTS?

Bill,
I bought a hydraulic scissor lift about 5 years ago from SJR Garage Equipment Ltd.
It works well, has all the safety gear, and costs £900 + Vat.
Importantly, it's narrow enough for an E type or TR.
You buy two scaffold planks, and driver the car on those, over the lift.
Alternatively you can recess in the floor.
I had thought of buying a single post lift or a four post at the time, but they are pretty large and uncompromising.
You can also move this lift around the garage - albeit not regularly - it's extremely heavy.
I can send you some pictures if you want.

Quick jack on a 67 OTS, allows full access to underside front to back but only lifts about 22". Did my ful mechanical rebuild with it.

Hello,
to answer your questions, if the Autolift3000 is compatible with my E-type OTS, it is compatible with a 2 + 2.
In addition, the two trays are 80 cm long, so the weight of the car is distributed over 160 cm. Thus, there is no risk of damaging the structure of the car, provided you press in the right place: just behind the floor pits.
Best regards.

I have what looks very similar to what Automech call their 7530D.
I have never tried to lift directly on the body, I made up some supports that sit on the trays and engage with each of the cars (4) jacking points.
The rate of lift is adjustable however even the slowest is a bit faster than i would prefer.
The 1 m lift makes access a breeze however it is an awkward working height, I tend to use lower.
