Hello E Type Fettlers,
Gathering together parts for my auto to manual conversion and wondered has anyone converted from the fork activated thrust bearing to a direct hydraulic type similar to the type supplied in the ‘Driven Man’ gearbox kit.
I am fitting a Jag MOD into the car with a standard 4.2 bellhousing etc so now would be the time to try this mod of it is practicable.
There must be something out there in the car parts universe that would be a cheap solution.
Anyone out there done this with any degree of success?
Cannot find anything on the forum
Thanks,
Nigel.

Given the unreliability of the "direct hydraulic type" as you call it and the need to remove the engine and gearbox to service it why would you want to use one?
The external slave cylinder arrangement with clutch fork and bearing may not perfectly reliable but at least it's cheap and easy to repair.

A good friend did the opposite. He opted to keep his BW bell and use an hydraulic release when ditching his XJC auto for a manual. Not many miles later he spent time and money rectifying clutch slip by switching to standard Jag bell and fork. No trouble since. You have been warned...Retroman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 5:38 pmHello E Type Fettlers,

Many thanks for the advice Chaps.
This is clearly not one of my better ideas.
Sacking it and going with the original fork etc.
Thanks again,
Nigel.
