S 1 4.2 oil filter blanking plug
#1 S 1 4.2 oil filter blanking plug
Hi I am fitting a capillary type oil meter and I need to blank off the port at the top of the oil filter housing. I have been informed that I can use a tapping on the oil gallery for that .

I have fitted a capillary oil gauge. The hole your are trying to blank off is the hole for the electric sender. The sender should be removed and replaced with an adapter for the tube.
The adapter came with the kit. Something like 1/4in BSP male/female to 1/8in NPT. Someone here will know for sure.

Hi the hole I am trying to block off is the one to the left in the photo. This rebuild I am doing for a customer is from a pile of bits I have been presented with. This filter housing could well be off another type of Jag or it had an oil cooler fitted . At the moment it has a large tapered male fitting in it . The hole when this is taken out is possibly 3/4 to 1". I will probably take the fitting out and weld or braze it up . Bryan

Also I am not sure what this capilliary guage is............... is it just a pressure guage ?
do you have the componant ? got a picture ?
however my main comment is mixed thread forms ie NPT and BSP
BSP P British Standard Pipe Parallel
BSP T British Staard Pipe Tapered
NPT National Pipe Thread as in USA Nation
Mixed forms can lead to confusion and mismatch
The Jaguar is a British car therefore suggest whatever the solution use BSP ?
hope this helps :-)

Hmm. On mine, it's not a hole! There is a recess, but just blank at the bottom. If yours is effectively that, i'd leave it as it is.phoenix wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 2:53 pmHi the hole I am trying to block off is the one to the left in the photo. Filter head with spin on conversion...the hole in the top would usually have the electric sender unit.....but you could connect you wet guage ....looks like the compression fitting was used for a wet guage
