Hi I can't seem to find on line the bellhousing bung on the left side/top looks like it could be D shaped ? and I am not sure if there should be another on underneath near the gearbox . (not the inspection cover)

There is no bung that I have ever seen on the upper left aperture, and none is shown in the parts list. The base is a metal coverC11910 which swivels on a rivet BD524/2

I bought the circular/teardrop metal cover for the hole at the bottom of the bell housing 10 years ago - it should be made of 18g tempered spring steel to enable it to remain located in the hole - the one I bought was 24 g mild steel absolutely useless. I didn't fit it in the end as it would just get deflected by the airflow and end up causing a rattle. I hope the ones now are better!

The one I am after is at the Top left hand side . you can see it looking past the dipstick, at the moment it has tank tape over it so I don't drop anything down it . I will try to photograph it .

I thought I had answered that. There is no bung in the parts list, and indeed I have never seen a car with one

Bryan Chris is right there is no bung at the timing hole.

Am I right in believing the topic author is a “professional” restorer?
I can’t help feeling if I were his client I’d be rather worried by all the questions he’s been asking and his reluctance to accept the answers and wisdom of those good enough to help him so much and so often.

That is not an original Jaguar access hole, or at least not E-Type; I expect someone has done a DIY job.

Edit: It has been pointed out to me that this hole does appear on 3.8's and early 4.2's, so sorry for the miss-information.

Looking at the photo the bolt fixing the stabiliser seems to be a wire lock version which I don’t believe is correct.
Also what is that pipe running through the stabiliser fixing bracket?

Bryan previously asked about the brake pipe routing , someone kindly posted photos showing--so maybe it is just that instead of doing --master cylinder- right hand frame-picture frame-joint-left hand frame to servo he has decided to take a short cut across the bulkhead. I would say not ideal as fitted as it could rub through causing total loss of brakes on the single line 4.2 and a potential fire -there are also carbs, throttle linkages ,rocking engine ,heat ,etc going the bulkhead route .
