Quite well covered in here but not quite the same problem. Last year my servo unit had rusted quite badly and I replaced it and all was well until last week. My brake pedal has gone rock hard (brakes are NOT on ) I have changed the reaction valve, no difference. Good vacuum and no apparent leaks on brake or vacuum system. Anyone had the same experience or any ideas, could it be the newish servo has failed ? Brake master cylinder ? any thoughts would be most gratefully accepted

#2 Re: s3 brakes
Hello John,
There is a Trap Valve in both the Master and Slave cylinders, located in the very front port of each. Typically, this valve in the After Market units is quite rubbishy and I've observed many instances where this valve has arranged itself to not allow fluid to pass through. As liquid is non compressible, with a full cylinder of fluid, the feeling is the same as having a solid bar of metal contained therein.
Normally this condition occurs if the Master Cylinder has been replaced with a cheap, After Market unit, but looking at the Brake Circuit schematic, the same could occur with the slave cylinder.
Regards,
Bill
