Roof mounted radio aerial

My series 1 2+2 has had a roof mounted aerial since long before I bought it in 1997.

It is only now that I am getting around to fitting a new headlining that I realise how messy and out of place the mounting on the inside of the car looks.
I am tempted to weld the hole and mount the aerial elsewhere.

Where do others mount their aerial ?
Are there any places to avoid ?
Any recommended aerials ?

Some previous owner stuck one on my dear n/s wing....an equally dumb place! To be honest with the advent of active aerials your best bet may be a discrete self adhesive one on the bottom of the windscreen....no holes. They are readily available from any motor factor and just need a 12 volt supply thats on when the radio is on....any modern set will have a suitable feed for the electric aerial.....use that....I hardly ever listen to the radio while driving....the XK engine sounds far better!

My electric aerial is fitted on the right hand side rear wing. It was fitted at the time of body prep and paint a long time ago. In hindsight I wish it hadn't been because I'll probably never use it thanks to Bluetooth and smartphone technologies.

Mine had the aerial in the rear OS wing which was totally stupid as every time you walked past you could hit it by accident as it stuck out so far when extended.
As I needed a new OEM windscreen from Pilkington I got one built into the glass when I replaced it, so... much better and cant be seen unless you are really close with a faint black line vertically up the centre of the glass under the internal mirror.
