#1 Coolant issue

Post by Louise Gibbs » Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:19 am

One of our E-type Club members has been using Evans Classic Coolant in his Series II but he feels the engine runs too hot.

Does anyone have any opinions and/or experiences they could share?

Many thanks

Hi Louise.....many use Evans without overheating issues...but due to its higher boiling point it can cause the engine to run hotter(see link below)...personally i dont think it does anything usefull that standard coolant dosent do.....suggest your member starts to use this forum to discuss his problem......why did he decide to use Evans? Did he follow the very strict instructions when useing it....why does he think the engine runs too hot?...has he looked at other causes of overheating etc etc....Steve ps full info from Evans here https://evanscoolant.com/pages/faq#:~:t ... erformance.

And let’s remember that Evans’ claim that Rolls Royce Merlin’s ran on 100% glycol is utter b*llsh*t.
They ran on 50/50 mix of glycol and water FACT!!

I think the evidence (75 years of XK engines living long lives w/conventional coolant/water mix) shows there is no need to use Evans Coolant. That said, if someone desires to run Evans in their car, there is little downside, other than the ability to deal with issues, say, on a long tour where an emergency coolant system repair would require one to carry gallons of Evans, just in case. To each their own. Just don't say Evans is better. More correct to say it's different.
