I know this topic has been discussed before. But every case is somewhat different.

My situation is:
Problem 1)
I have a manifold that is solid from the engine to the silencer. (made by hawardandscott) They assured me it would connect to the silencer. It does not. about 20cm apart.

Problem 2)
From SNG Barrat I have bought, silencer clamps (SS), Mounitng rubber and the silencer it self.
There is no possible way on ¤%&/# to fit the damn clamp in between the mounting rubber mountings, they are to thick, or, the clamp are to wide?
I have seen someone solve this issue with reinforced rubber, maybe 8mm thick. But I can't find it anywhere. If I could get a reinforced rubber plate to cut to size it could work.

From the silencer to the rear the system kinda fits, with questionable tolerances.

Does anyone have some pictures of a 2+2 etype that shows the length of the inlet pipes of the silencer? or any other detail would also be nice.

Any tip on parts or solution is appreciated. I don't wan to extent the 20cm gap with a 4 more claps and cheap pipe.

I can take pics from mine, but from memory this is what I did, 2 pipes 4 clamps to fill the gap.
Originally the 2-1-2 situation is located roughly there.

Hi....i would say your down pipes are wrong...the 2+2 should be 2 into 1 then into 2 with flexis...have a look at this S2 2+2 system......i have fitted a complete SNGB Bell system to a S2 2+2....it fit perfect....however the thick stainless clamps around the silencers are not good and too thick to bend into shape.....the originals were thinner mild steel and bendable.....easy to make some yourself with thin steel.....note the front and rear brackets are different widths.....the rails the hanging mounts fix to arnt parallel they are wider i think at the rear....measure them....Steve

The 2 into 1 into 2 does strangle the exhaust flow a bit. It was only done to avoid the larger automatic gearbox, and was unnecessary on a manual.
My replacement system was from Hayward Scott, and was 2 all the way to the middle silencer

Happily take photos for you, though mine is a series 2, 2+2.

Can’t really comment on your point No.1 - engine to silencer pipes, but they really do look too short.

No.2 Hard to tell from your pictures - but could it be that the you have the silencers upside down?

Let me know if you need pictures, though mine is a classic fabs system, so the silencer has different mounts.

Just to add...when fitting an exhaust dont tighten anythin up untill its all connected snd in the right position. ..and start from the front......Steve

Interesting, do you have a picture? After several mails with SNG and Haywards & Scott, it seems that H&S actually have made a short wheel base manifold for me....

SNG is clearly not doing a good job, since all brackets, mounts and all other parts from them do not fit at all.
Someone commented that the original was mild steel, and that migth be easier to istall, but I don't want to trade down the material quality now. This will be a fully ss exhaust system....

When I had my 2+2 I fitted an e type fabs short manifold and system. I didn’t want the siamisse pipe system. I wanted a system similar to that which you are trying to get
On speaking to e type fabs they made the link pipes ( with the flexible bits ) 9 inches longer. This will take up the difference that you have.

Fitted simply and perfectly.

I agree with the other comment either your brackets or the complete silencer is upside down.

Hi I to have a series 1 2+2, fitted with a Hayward and Scott complete system.. I used their clamps etc but all fitted together perfectly, as someone else mentioned further down I think you have a coupe and not a 2+2 downpipe as mine is the same one piece all the way to the silencer? Have you contacted them? I found them very helpful ..

They are contacted and I think they will send me a sleeve to fill the gap. But for a car with 3500 hour in it, I don't want to have a mismatched part there. It's a MacGyver fix in my world :/

No worries Malcolm, I don't have time before juni to work properly on it again :/ The life of a student with a E-type project..

Tim wood ;) I'm pretty sure now that H&S has given me the wrong part. But just to be 100% sure, if you have a image of the exhaust, particular where the ends of the downpiepe is relative to the underside of the car. As you can see, mine ends about 3cm after the manual gearbox, and looooong before the gearbox support bracket. If yours go further I think I have resolved this and need to extent the pipes in the future :(

Sorry Thim, i don’t have a photo and the car is now sold.

The overall effect and finish was similar to a SWB car, individual down pipes feeding into the silencer.
